PACKING LIST · SOUTHAMPTON DEPARTURE

Norwegian Fjords Cruise Packing List for UK Travellers

Pack for four conditions in one day rather than one season. A sunny Southampton forecast tells you very little about a shaded fjord, a windy deck at 06:00 or a wet mountain viewpoint.

Planning details checked 18 August 2026. Always verify live times and prices before payment.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Build around a waterproof outer layer, two warm mid-layers and footwear you can walk in when wet. One small day bag should hold everything needed for a sudden weather change.

Wear, do not merely carry, a waterproof shell

A water-resistant fashion jacket is not the same as a taped-seam shell. Choose a hood that stays secure in wind; umbrellas are awkward on open decks and exposed viewpoints.

  • Light waterproof shell with hood.
  • Fleece or fine wool mid-layer.
  • Quick-drying base layers.

Footwear for wet ground

Most independent port days involve more walking than expected. Use trainers or light walking shoes with reliable grip; break them in before sailing.

  • One main pair with grip.
  • Dry spare socks in the day bag.
  • Optional lighter pair for evenings on board.

The scenic sail-in kit

The best views can arrive before breakfast. Put the essentials together the night before so you can reach an outside deck without searching the cabin in the dark.

  • Warm hat and thin gloves.
  • Phone or camera plus charged power bank.
  • Reusable cup or flask if permitted by the ship.

Documents and practical extras

Keep cruise documents, insurance details and essential medication in hand luggage. Do not place anything needed on embarkation day in the checked suitcase.

  • UK plug plus the ship-compatible adaptor listed by your cruise line.
  • Small refillable bottle.
  • A waterproof pouch for tickets and phone.
